Find your passion. It will all flow from there.
If you do something you like, the money will follow. It’s a cliche, I know, but it worked for me.
I won’t kid you, though… it still won’t be plain sailing all the way, but it will make things easier to stomach. And it will help you get going. If you don’t feel strongly enough to get out of bed to do it, then maybe it isn’t really what you want to do in the first place.
The first 3 months was easy for me – I saved up about 6 months’ worth of expenses, and then just went out and did it. The crunch really came after the 6th month. That’s when your savings starts to run out, if it hasn’t already, and having a steady cash flow going becomes a pressing need.
The money will not be there immediately, but if you’re passionate about what you’re doing then you will keep plugging at it longer than you normally would, even when you don’t know how you’re going to pay all the bills that’s starting to stack up. You just know you’re going to make it.
And when it is there, the money isn’t always going to be plentiful. But again, if you’re doing something you are passionate about, then getting less money won’t feel like such a big deal.
I’ve had my own business for just over a year now, and at the moment I am earning less than half my last-drawn salary, but I feel happier and more at peace these days compared to when I had to trudge down to work every 9am even when I was wondering why I even bothered.
