pay off my debt
A question about this goal: What is the first step to getting out of debt? October 21st, 2006 12:23

Answers:

I really began by saving money. I did a lot of research online on the getting out of debt steps, too. It is all about discipline. I spent two and a half years saving money and paying off creditors. I did check my credit report but it gave me no new info on what I owed. I saved receipts for two months to track my spending and created a monthly budget for myself. It helped me save $1,500.00 per month! I am an artist by trade and am very familiar with “getting by” which can really help you save. It is tough, but if you know that it will end after a period of time you can get through the tough part. For instance – I was less social during those two years, and that irritated my friends, BUT NOW I am making up for the lost time. It is so worth it! This may sound ridiculous but if you go to Oprah.com there is a debt section where you can create a budget for yourself to track your spending. I suggest starting there and prioritizing your wants and needs. The sacrifice is worth it!!! If I can help further please let me know!
