There are lots of herbs that will grow just fine indoors. The nice thing about some, like chives, is that they are perennial, so leaving some outdoors to come up again next spring will assure you of a fresh crop every year, just in case your indoor plants don’t fare well over the winter. Most herbs have a living cycle, so to speak, so keep the flower buds trimmed off them to keep them growing. Otherwise, they will begin to go to seed and dry up.

Keep herbs in a sunny window and don’t overwater. I’ve even kept cayenne peppers indoors, and had fresh cayennes well into the winter.

My son is in culinary school, and insists on fresh herbs whenever possible, so I am definitely going to have to start growing them indoors again!
