A question about this goal: Where in the bible can I find the seven deadly sins? and are there any good allusions to it in books/movies/etc today? September 19th, 2007 17:10

What do you mean with “born with a chronic disease”? Can’t an all-powerful God cure it? Isn’t an all-loving God cruel when it gives birth to chronically diseased “children”?

What do you mean “we were born in a fallen world”? Isn’t God all-loving and all-powerful? Could he not start us with a clean slate? Why did he choose not to do so? Unknown are His paths? Then why would you trust ANYTHING about this arbitrary God?

dandv has gotten 1 cheer on this answer.

God can do anything, but we as humans have limitations. It’s the fact that God didn’t set us up as puppets. We seem to blame God for things that go wrong, but never thank him for things that go right. In giving us the choice in how we live, God let us have the consequences that come along with that. If a mother makes the choice of doing drugs while she’s pregnant and her baby turns out all messed up, of course it isn’t the baby’s fault. But now both the mother and the baby have to live with the result of the choices she made. God isn’t just going to step in and “wipe the slate clean”. And, unfortunately, I (and everyone else I guess) cannot see how God works. If someone knew everything about God and why he does what he does, he wouldn’t be God; part of his nature is his mystery and part of our nature is that we are unable to comprehend God.
I kinda bad taking up this space to discuss this, but please feel free to respond to me at deborah.cahill@gmail.com
