A question about this goal: Should I Have A Script First? March 19th, 2006 19:50

Answers:

The dialog may change once the actors start rehearsing; the story may even change in editing after it’s all been shot; but at the end of the day having a script pretty much done before pre-production is an important factor in having an organized, professional shoot.

My first film was a very tight shoot so we had to be clear about exactly what was going to be shot when and where. We couldn’t have done that without a completed script that had then been broken down and scheduled.

Spending time getting the script right at the start also avoids costly plot mistakes that might not otherwise get noticed until editing time.
