Josh Petersen Cleaning up after miscreants

create a "Junto" group (read all 2 entries…)
Every other week? 1 year ago

I’ve written a bit about the original junto over on the mutual improvement blog, but I’ve had a goal for some time to start my own junto group.

I’m the kind of guy who would love to run the “junto” weekly, but I’m thinking it might be best to start out every other week. I’m thinking of checking out a biznik meeting to see how that operates and see if there are any lessons to draw from it.

Ideally, I’d love the junto to run as a philosophical society, and a mutual improvement group. Personally, I like the idea of each member preparing a short talk as well.

I wonder if I’ll get anyone else to join.

I'd love to be involved too

Where do you want to meet? How strictly do you want to keep it to the BF version? Will we each go around and ask each other if we have any grudges in the group, or have experienced any form of success or failure to share with the group, etc?

I think a lot of our ideas are circling around this idea… I’m personally working on two other versions of this (Office Hours, and now McLeod) and think that they can benefit from each other by being slightly different from one another.

You're in too.

I am thinking of something fairly close to the BF version, and maybe something a bit like a Cambridge style Middle Common Room salon. I think we should develop some sort of regular interogation, as well as create a forum for people to share (or be forced to produce) their intellectual product.

We should find someplace that serves port or sherry.

The first thing that came to mind was the Palace Kitchen… doesn’t it have little rooms to the side? I wonder if you can reserve those. Might be expensive though. How about Daniel’s house? :)

What about McLeod?

How soon could McLeod be available for a small junto?
