Learn Lithuanian (read all 2 entries…)
New Years Resolution

Well, I’ve wanted to do this for years and I’m not getting any younger. I would like to learn Lithuanian and then travel there since my paternal grandfather and great grandfather came to the US from Naumiestes, Lithuania. I need to do more genealogical research also before my trip. I’m not sure if I should buy the pimsleur program or not. Any advice appreciated!

Labas!

Thanks for your comment! I just bought a book & CD set to learn Lithuanian. It is going well. I want to be somewhat comfortable with the language before I travel to Lithuania … hopefully next summer! Are there many Lithuanians in Argentina? Labas vakaras!

labas!

yeah, we are 270,000 of people with roots in Lithuania, living in Argentina. Most of us, 3rd generation. We have some big lithuanian clubs too.
So you live in Tallahasse? well, there is a big Lithuania community in Tampa Bay (St Petesburg). I visited a lithuanian club there a couple of years ago…
You can check in www.passagierlisten.de the most important database for lithuanian emigration to the rest of the world. it s quite similar to Ellis Island database, but names of the places and surnames, used to keept lithuanian.
Its important to consider WHEN your grandparents left Lithuania. Even thougth, there are many lithuanians today, that don t know how their surnames changed 1,2 or 3 times in less than a century. When I say WHEN i mean a political moment.
If you wanna some more help, just let me know about it.
