find my passion (read all 2 entries…)
Where do I look?

Do I go for something that makes me happy, or that gives happiness to others? Do I pursue my pleasures, or do I give pleasure to others? Do I go for something I am good at, regardless of how much I like it; or do I go for what I like, regardless of my talent for it?

Simplicity

I read a story to my kids last nite – Max Lucado, think he is also American.
There’s a Punchinello inside most of us, isn’t there? An urge for others’ approval, a drive to be like the rest of the crowd, a need to show off all our “stuff.” The little wooden fellow we first met in “You Are Special” learns a hard but essential lesson about “stuff” in his new adventure, You Are Mine.

Boxes and balls. They were the latest thing! Fancy balls. Colorful boxes. All the Wemmicks had them. All, that is, except Punchinello. Not wanting to be left out, he resolved to fit in. He would do whatever it took to have what others had. Eli, his maker, used the moment to remind Punchinello of this truth: “You are special, not because of what you have, but because “you are mine.” Only when little Punch falls into the hands of his loving creator, Eli does he discover he is loved absolutely, positively just the way he is.
Made me think of all my boxes and balls – and how hard it is to maintain them all once you’ve got it! TO keep up with everybody else!

Back to Basics

Our family went on a diving holiday to Mozambique recently. After a meal at a restaurant, when we asked for serviettes, the waiter brought us a roll toilet paper. Instead of being indignified, we had to appreciate the simplicity ot these people – you want to clean your hadns, I bring what I’ve got!

"Basics" right.

Yes, what I am asking is more basic. Should your waiter be your waiter, or should he be the chef? our should he be out on the plains tending to the cattle, or protecting the wildlife from pouchers, or (sadly) should he be a poucher?
What is his passion?
One man (or woman to be PC) can have the capacity to be a great preacher or a heartless mercenary. He could be a brilliant mathematician or a bookie/loanshark in Vegas (get it? “Shark”! :-) ... I digress)
Anyway, how do you know what is your passion? What is the basic core of your being? What are you deep down inside?

Passion Hunt

Like the times are changing, we are changing IN them – and we all have the capacity within to be a saviour or destructor, mathematician or a loanshark, a noblist who wants to work for Dr.’s without borders, yet a capititalist that wants to make as much money as possible. ANd where does passion fit in all this? I don’t know – deep down I am a small little sardine, but i’m also an apex predator…Life is so full of contrasts that fits like gloves, and so is our passions, ever changing. I don’t think one has to have one passion that you follow – it can be a bit self-destructive then – bordering on obsession. (and what is the difference between obsession and passion?) But I think passion is about what makes YOU happy and not what or who you should be to make other people happy. And you Big Mighty Guy or Gal, what’s your passion?

I don't know

that’s exactly the point.
Me, Big Mighty guy (look at the pics … I’d be a pretty ugly gal, if I was) would like to find my passion and I don’t know what that is. I like many things and I am good and many things too. But what should I pursue?
And I disagree with you: I believe you need to focus to really be good at anything. I might be great a cooking and enjoy doing it, but unless I focus and hone my art/skill, I can’t expect the best I can be. And focusing does not need to be “destructive”. I can work hard at something without letting it be self-consuming. Tiger woods is not consumed by Golf, he just plays a lot and is very good at it. His life does revolve around the game, but I don’t think it is an obsession or anything like that.
