While traveling back and forth from PA to FL I always hated taking I-95 as it was just too busy,so I began taking the ‘alternate’ route of I-81 and what a view! I’ve been up and down the east coast and I think the Blue Ridge mountains are some of most breathtaking views on the east coast! I even moved to Roanoke for a couple years and honestly I should have stayed!

Culture Shock?
Since I am coming from New York City would Roanoke scare me? Meaning would the town be very quiet and slow with loads of nothing to do, since I am used to 24 hour access? I know most cities and towns outside of the NYC area are not 24 hours (I justed moved to NJ), but I read that Roanoke is smaller then Richmond and has only about 94k people (NYC has 8 mil).
Thanks
Re:Culture Shock
When I lived in Roanoke I actually met a few people from the ‘north’...my landlords were from CT and my co-worker was from NY. We actually networked pretty well. Roanoke is actually one of the key areas along the Blue Ridge that is desirable for retirement so you shouldn’t have much of a problem.
Ironically the places outside NY and even Philadelphia are Less around-the-clock type places than places like the Allentown PA area(college area),there were even a few late nite type places in Roanoke again probably due to the colleges nearby.

cool thanks! I’ve lived in NYC My whole life (25 yrs) and I don’t want to limit myself. I visited Virginia twice as a child and I like it. Recently Virginia rolled down my tongue when I was trying to decide to which states I wanted to move. I don’t want to live in the DC area because of the crime (DC #1 crime in US), but DC area has more jobs. thanks for the info, I’ll keep doing my research.
