restore politeness, refinement, tact and other old-fashioned niceties (read all 3 entries…)
So I can't seem to change the world by being polite 10 months ago

Easiest way to explain why I try to be chivalrious is well I’m hoping that it spreads but lets face it I’ve been at it for over 15 years and I am not blind to the fact that I get penalized for holding doors and doing “nice things”. It’s viewed with suspicion, it’s considered weak and it serves as a point of ridicule for me.

I came accross this article that points out some of the flaws in how I’ve been going about trying to be Chivalrious click here for article

I’ll admit, sometimes I hold the door open too early but I always thought that it’s the thought that counts. Well recently over heard a co worker label my offer to walk her to her car (saturday night) as “the holy walk” without realizing that I was in earshot of course.

Fair enough, I probably won’t change but I won’t hope to fix the world either :( .

Comments:

aye but being chivalrious is more than polite

It is sometimes inconvieniencing yourself to assisting others. Its offering to help a lady with her grocery bags if she is struggling with it even if you are not really going in that direction.
Its easy to be polite when it’s convienient. Maybe that’s what I should do, limit my efforts to what is par for the course polite :) .

No! No! No!

Please dont!!I like the idea that in some part of the world, someone is at the receiving end of your exertions:)I am all for chivalry.I remember falling completely flat for someone who held the door for me once- it was the first time someone had done that fo me and I remember it after 15 yrs!

Your chivalry is AWESOME

Please don’t change!!! I love knowing that you make a difference for people in the world. You put on a smile on people’s faces even if they don’t show it immediately or outwardly. Thank you for being that person who puts smiles on other people’s faces!
Keep smiling and being you! :)

Thanks
