get my air conditioner fixed (read all 7 entries…)
Ding Dong, the A/Cs dead 5 months ago

The repairman said it’s dead. It’s dead!! Now I wait for them to call the warranty company and hope the warranty company comes through with their promises to replace dead air conditioners.

The bad news is that I probably won’t hear anything until tomorrow, and I don’t know what that means as far as getting a new one installed. It’s going to be a hot weekend.

While you are making decisions

Contact your utility company and see if they have an incentive program that covers the incremental cost of a higher than standard efficiency unit.

Is your ductwork in the attic above the insulation?
While you are at it, see if they have a rebate program for duct testing and sealing. Many homes about the same vintage as yours have been found to have very high duct leakage rates 20-40% is NOT Uncommon. That is 20-40% of you heating and cooling $ going to condition the attic. Duct leakage is the single largest waste of energy in residential homes.

Austin

Austin supposedly has one of the best rebate programs in the country. I’m not sure how much influence I’ll have over what I get since the warranty company (hopefully) will be paying for it. They might just cut me a check, though, and if that’s the case, I’ll be going high efficiency. :)

I had a guy check the ductwork a few weeks ago, so I’m good there!

Thanks, SWAZ!

I Looked

I evaluate the effectiveness of these programs, that is my job, well a huge part of it. So yeah, I can’t help looking.

Here is their program.

They send you an information packet rather than put all of the information on the web site, that is kinda lame.

Did your guy visually inspect your ductwork or did he do a pressurization test?

How to tell:

Did you get numerical test results or just a “thumbs up”?
