JudithKD "..it's the try that counts. Win, lose, or draw

I'm under 5' tall

and I’ve swum all my life, or as long as I can remember.

I took adult classes once after my back injury with someone who was afraid of water, and although I admired his bravery a good deal, it was counterproductive for the two of us to be in the same pool. I wound up in the olympic pool and he stayed in the therapy pool (This was at a brain injury facility. The therapy pool was 3’ deep everywhere.)

Find a place that will teach you individually and in a shallow pool at first. Being afraid of drowning is a primal fear; we all have it. It takes work to overcome it and perserverance.

Ask for help and you can likely find it. Do NOT join a group or whatever where no one can deal with your fear. It you’re serious, see if you can’t afford some personal lessons and try it in a therapy pool or some other shallow pool where you can’t drown unless you don’t stand up.

Putting your face in water can be scary, I know. I remember being taught to do that. I was a very young child, but it was very scary!

The only difference between us is that I was taught to master my fear and you haven’t, yet.

Good luck!

Judith
