Take a look at this fucking scum bag, Derrick Sonnier... 4 months ago

Back in 1991, this prick came on to some woman named Melody Flowers. She wasn’t interested, I guess, so he did what any other man would do, he raped her, beat her, stabbed her and then strangled her to death. And for good measure, he stabbed and killed one of her kids, Patrick.

The state of Texas killed the fucker yesterday.

I’ve been paying attention to arguments about the death penalty for more than four decades, so I’m pretty familiar with them all. But, let’s come at this from a bit different direction…

Do you think the world needs scum bag pieces of shit like this?

And once again,

you make me say what I didn’t.

It is not society’s responsibility that they committed a crime. They do have a choice (but once again, as I pointed out before, although they are deliberately choosing their actions, I believe their ability to make the correct choice is what they need help with).

So yes, it is the criminal’s fault. But it is society that failed to protect its members in not making sure a potentially dangerous element remained imprisoned.

I don’t think what I’m saying is the easiest way out. But I think it’s the best one.

God

I wasn't trying to deliberately...

...put words in your mouth. I was going off what you said…quote…But yes, all in all, I think it s the fault of society for releasing someone that shouldn’t have been released yet.

So in your view, society has a responsibility to re-work the miscreant or keep him locked up until he’s functional?

*Mama Bear* is back :)

Yep.

That’s pretty much the idea.

God

Got it.

I’d rather they were dead. That satisfies at least two things.

First, society wouldn’t have to worry about them doing it again. Decent people would be safe from them.

Secondly, I am a firm believer in punishment and retribution and a dead scum bag also satisfies that.

And, since I believe people are individually responsible for their own acts, this puts the responsibility where it belongs. Hey, murdering and raping sir, if you don’t want the state to kill you, don’t do those kinds of actions. You might want to think about making better choices.

See? It’s all his choice. As it should be.

I have mixed feelings on this issue.

I think, if you commit the crime, and it warrants the death penalty in your country or state, then you deserve your penalty. You should have known better. The point of a death penalty for crimes is to dissuade people from committing certain acts. If you’re too stupid not to do things that earn you that penalty-tough shit for you.
However, not everyone executed is always guilty. The courts do make mistakes sometimes. I think less so, now with DNA technology and better CSI in general, but still there CAN be mistakes. I hate the idea of us executing innocents. It makes you worry for your own safety. What if, someday something happens and evidence points at ME? I don’t want to get a needle for something I didn’t do!
Another issue I have with it, is that it really is supposed to make folks think twice about committing murders and other violent crimes, and yet it seems to have no effect. Texas for instance, has horrible violent crime rates, despite the fact that they execute more criminals than anyone else. I think all in all, the system needs to be re-thought, but I’ll be damned if I know how to fix it.
