Programming is an invaluable skill. I hope to be using it for the rest of my life, regardless of how I’ll apportion my income. I like writing, being productive, and otherwise doing well. Programming is one way to do that.

Ruby is better, as far as being expressive and very flexible. Ruby on Rails is growing rapidly as a web tool. Python is useful, but its being surpassed by Ruby. Also, do you have any background in basic CS—C++ or Java?

I'm not a programmer

Well, I take that back. In college I wrote a few programs in Basic. But that’s a long, long time ago.

I chose Python because that’s the language of Django, which is becoming a standard framework in media, which is where I work. And Python is used quite a bit by the folks at Google, so it can’t be too bad.
