My oh my - David Gray 2 years ago

What on Earth is going on in my heart?
as it turns cold to stone…

Seems these days I don’t feel anything
Unless it cuts me right down to the bone.

What on earth is going on in my heart?

Cause my oh my you know it just don’t stop
Cause in my mind I wanna tear it up
I’m trying to fight trying to turn it off
But it’s not enough

It takes a lot of love
It takes a lot of love, my friend
to keep your heart from freezing
to push on til the end.

My oh my!

What on earth is going on in my head?
I know I used to be so sharp.
You know I used to be so definite
Thought I knew what love was for.
I look around these days
I’m not so sharp.
No no no

My oh my you know it just don’t stop.
It’s in my mind I wanna tear it up.
Trying to fight trying to turn it off
but it’s not enough.
It takes a lot of love
It takes a lot of love, my friend
to keep your heart from freezing
to push on til the end
my oh my you just can’t win
you burn it down it comes right back again
what kind of world is this we’re living in
where you never win?

It takes a lot love
it takes a lot love these days
to keep your heart from freezing
to keep your spirit free… oh

my oh my

My oh my you know it just don’t stop
it’s in my mind i wanna tear it up
trying to fight it trying to turn it off
but it’s not enough
It takes a lot of love
It takes a lot of love, my friend
to keep your heart from freezing
to push on til the end.

My oh my you know it just don’t stop
my oh my you know it just don’t stop
Just don’t
My oh my you know it just don’t stop
my oh my
My oh my you know it just don’t stop
my oh my
my oh my you know it just don’t stop
weeeeelll
my oh my you know it just don’t stop
my oh my
my oh my
my oh my you know it just don’t stop
my oh my you know it just don’t stop

Again a beautiful song, and can be interpreted in many ways.

Comments:

Good question.

I hadn’t really thought of that.

I suppose I’ll end it when it “feels complete”, but I think that will be a while. I saw the goal and it really spoke to me, so I wanted to have it open just to record these songs.

What I wonder is what other people’s songs are. There are many, many songs I love, but occasionally there are one or two (like riverman) that, in addition to liking them, just send a tingle up your spine. Why? Does the song do the same for everyone, or do other people’s songs not work for me?

Neither of these songs so far have any special associations for me in time or events when I heard them, it’s just the song itself. In Riverman, I read an interesting article about the structure of the chords used for it. It may mean more to guitar players than to me (or to me after I learn!)

Anyway, I welcome you to post the songs that bring you a shiver, I’d love to hear them.

Edina loves madly and deeply

That is an interesting article.

A song that actually brings to me a shiver.
Hm, must be a creepy & powerful song.

Well,

the shiver should maybe be a “good” shiver – possibly a “tingle” :-)

I’m not sure I’d like songs that scare the crap out of me! The one that did that was “Subway song” by The Cure (I think off three imaginary boys album. The song is about a someone walking home late at night and being followed, has a quite eerie bassline. After the song fades out there’s a few seconds of silence, then a huge scream. First time I listened to it I nearly died.
