Annual Puke Fest?

My mom and I ran the Human Race 5K again this year. I looked back at last year’s entry and saw I puked during it which I did today too. Looks like this could be an annual puke fest for me.

My sinuses have been completely clogged for the past two days and I knew this wasn’t going to be a good race. I actually was on my pace for the first mile at 7:47, but I was already wheezing. I dropped to a walk to take a hit on my albuterol inhaler and started running again. I walked two more times before the half way mark with more hits of inhaler. At mile two I was already behind pace at 16:43.

Shortly after that I puked. Again it was just dry heaves like last year, but it’s still the same bodily process. After that I knew I shouldn’t take another hit on my inhaler, so I dropped to walks a couple more times when I just couldn’t breathe. Still I finished in 26:04 just 14 seconds longer than last year’s time, but almost a minute longer than my April race this year. And here I’d been hoping to break 24 minutes finally.

Mom improved her standing this year taking 2nd in her age category. Last year she was 3rd. Her time was 31 something.

Nuun

I’m a total Nuun freak – restores the electrolytes without all the sugar and coloring.

None For Me

I tend to do just water even for marathons, though I’ll have some Gu in the second half. I’ll have to try some Nuun.

Not sweet

Just has electrolytes. It’s convenient for cyclists because it’s in the format of tablets in a little tube – you do the dissolving in water. Because there’s no sugar, it isn’t bulky.

Cloudberry is a pea in a pod. With another pea.

that

is exactly what I’ve been looking for, for years!

There’s something in the Emergen-C line that’s close, but has all these vitamins that you don’t really need. I started adding Crystal Light and pinches of table salt and ‘lite’ salt (potassium chloride) to water, and that was not bad. But it’s pretty fiddly.

Great news, you can find Nuun in the UK!

Also

Gu2O is similar, but we had to put it in baggies to carry on long rides.
