after a bit of a tiring week.
SO started his new research placement on Monday, but as fate would have it the stars aligned to make it the week in which I had to give not one but two end of term presentations, and get my biometrics done for the new passport. We decided that it would be best for SO to head on down to the new place whilst I held the fort in the old flat, attended to my commitments and got some packing done.
Easier said than done.
Father-in-law, who is freshly retired and suddenly time-rich, decided that he really, really wanted to come up to help us with the moving. Which was lovely idea in theory. The in-laws are amazing, and I really lucked out in getting them. But doing things with them usually involves drinking loads of tea and smiling until it hurts. And I really didn’t fancy playing hostess with a big rushed move on my hands.
But somehow, against all odds it turned out alright. The build-up ended up being worse than the actual move. Ok, I did bomb one presentation, and lost a lot of sleep and weight, but I managed to pack the entire flat single-handedly in close to a day. We managed to get everything into the hired van (although it didn’t seem possible) and got everything unloaded into the new place.
We’ve still got boxes everywhere, which might be around for another week or so. We’ll just be unpacking evenings and weekends, as SO will be out working on his research project and I have to crack on with my thesis 9 to 5.
So far so good…ish
