Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

43Things Secret Santa 2011 (read all 19 entries…)
Welcome To The Third 43T Secret Santa :)

I hope that I will be joined by previous participants and of course, newcomers are also welcome :) Please feel free to invite anyone you think will be interested – the more the merrier! :)

This is how it has worked in the last couple of years:

  • those who wish to take part provide me with their postal address by PM (if you only join the goal, you will not be included until I have this information) – your personal information will not be passed on to anyone other than your Santa
  • on a fixed date, the draw for your “giftee” takes place – latecomers may be accepted into the draw if possible
  • a spending limit is agreed prior to Santas going shopping
  • after the draw, I distribute the addresses to Santas
  • it’s Chriiistmaaaaaas! :D

If you would like to take part, please PM me your postal address by 18th November 2011 and I will add you to my list. The draw will take place on 19th November 2011.

The spending limit has previously been agreed at US$20 – if the consensus is happy with this, we can leave it as is. If the consensus is to alter this amount, it can be revised. Please let me know either way :)

In general, participation in this goal has been on the understanding that it may involve postage to any part of the world. It may be possible to split those who only wish to send domestically from those willing to send internationally, but this will affect how the draw is run, so please let me know your thoughts :)

If you wish to provide your Secret Santa with ideas or hints for gifts, you can add an entry to this goal, but if you want to leave it up to Secret Santas to choose, then lists of goals and entries of your “giftee” can be very useful for finding inspiration. You can also check previous years to see what people have given, if you are still looking for ideas :)
