Toothbrushes

This month I started using a biodegradable toothbrush, reviewed on this site:

http://www.earthandbodyfriendly.com.au/2009/05/environmental-toothbrush/

Basically: handle = bamboo, bristles = biodegradable plant-based polymer

I’ve always been concerned about the plastic in toothbrushes because we’re encouraged to throw them away every 3 months, and as far as I know they’re not recyclable? I’ve kept a couple to use as cleaning tools but haven’t used them often. Aside from toothbrushes I’ve also had an issue with contact lens containers. I mean, what else can you use those for? And most of the time they come with the contact lens solution you buy so there’s no escaping having a truckload of them.

Quite enjoying the new toothbrush so far. I’m curious to see how biodegradable it really is, because I’m not sure if it’s that much better to toss these into the trash than it is to toss the plastic ones. Landfill is landfill.

Biodegradable toothbrush

Do you have a compost pile or someplace outside you could bury the old toothbrush? It would be interesting to see how it degrades over time… how long it takes. If you try it, definitely post pictures somewhere! :-)
