I don’t like that kind of stuff either, the comparing or having to prop each other up, but I would have probably said something that I thought was great about her—because I don’t like it when people feel badly about their looks. It would probably be along the line of “Oh, you have such gorgeous thick hair, I wish my hair was like yours. Mine’s so fine and flyaway…”
It sounds like she needed some reassurance that she was attractive.

except she is attractive. i don’t think she feels bad about herself at all. if she did she wouldn’t of posed the question.
if i thought she did feel bad i would of been kind, but that was weird.

Even very attractive people
feel insecure. Often, really good looking people are worried about being attractive more than the rest of us, because they depend on it, where most of us have learned to focus on other parts of our lives and personality for reassurance.
There are some people out there whose whole life depends on continuing to be the most attractive person in the room. It’s how they got ahead at work, how they got their spouse, and how they get attention.
If they think someone else isn’t paying attention, they will often draw attention to their looks, by making comments like what you mentioned. It’s possible that she does think you are prettier than her, and she’s kind of worried about it.

if that were true then she should find something better to think about than who the prettiest girl is and work on basing her confidence on something else.
i don’t compare myself to other women because there’s no point. and i don’t see any harm in telling her she looks nice but it caught me off guard.
but i don’t believe that to be the case at all. in other words i don’t care.
