be a great manager (read all 36 entries…)
It was suggested that I was acting like a cowboy

trying to help some people move up the ladder, getting different stories from those people about what they want to do, having higher expectations than I should about my people.

Getting the idea that I should just back down and take it easy. It is not about changing the world for some of these people it is just a day by day trying to get through.

thanks for your insight

I have the added issue of being on the night shift as well. Everyone I did know to have lunch meetings and chat are all sleeping. Besides that, my new boss expects us all to sit and eat together with him as a group, to form unity. I guess that might work but I also find there is a lot of awkward silences. I mentioned it individually to 3 of the other managers, 2 said, “what awkward silences?” and only one said, ‘yes, it can get a little uncomfortable at times.” Perhaps I expected something a little different.

Check and adjust.

oooh...

Do you have to all eat together everyday? It’s interesting that some people are aware of the awkward silences while others are oblivious. Your group needs one of those people who can always keep the conversation going. That’s a real art!
