That would be challenging for me because the cats demand affection so frequently from me. Pudette has gotten fickle about getting petted by mom, so I’m really having to give it to her now.

I Do
But I am not one of those people who my phone is an extension of my being. I rarely have my phone with me except when I am working or traveling. The rest of the time it is sitting on a counter somewhere.

But have no fear, this goal is still possible.
How about counting seconds in your head as you pet the cat? It might put you more firmly in the cat-petting moment; it’d be a kind of meditation. Rather than watching the TV as you pet the cat or daydreaming or reciting the periodic table in alphabetical order or whatever else one does simultaneously with cat-petting, just turn on your internal metronome and keep track of the ticks.
