Stuffed toys

I was looking around my apartment and realised that I still have a couple of them. I very much let them be, don’t hug them in my sleep or that kind of thing, in fact, I had totally forgotten that I still had them around, but the fact is I can’t bring myself to get rid of them. I’m 24 ! Soon 25.

Anyway, it’s not that uncommon when I think of it, and so I was wondering :

do you still have stuffed toys or comfort objects of any sort (my ex had this giant smelly rope of old rags and shirts that she liked to cuddle and occasionally extend with more abominable add-ons) ?

or do you remember those you did have ?

Please do grace us with all the embarrassing details : names, what kind of animal/thing etc ! Come on, tell us all about your dirty secrets !

The whole stuffed animal thing

is kind of sad. After all, they are little effigies of living things, and especially as children, we treat them with great love and affection.

Then, what do you do with them? Few people want you to give their children your old stuffed animals, and thrift stores don’t want them because they can harbour vermin.

No one wants to throw them away, and it seems inhuman to even put them in a box in the attic.

I have several from my childhood, and quite a few lovely additions like Beanies and special beauties from the zoo gift shops.

You made me picture

that scene in Artificial Intelligence where all the old robots and droids are in the junkyard arena.

That's very much how I feel.

The book “The Velveteen Rabbit” makes me cry, because that’s the level of love we give stuffed animals as children, and the secret belief that one day they will become real is what most kids feel too.

The Velveteen Rabbit...

That was my favorite story as a child. It really hold a place in my heart. It’s still hard to think my stuffed bunny from childhood doesn’t have at least a little soul… even if it’s really a piece of mine.

Haha!

That’s exactly where my old teddy bear is! In a box in the attic along with a few ex’es. Though at the time I did feel some guilt for boxing him up and leaving him up there.

Who?

The teddy or the ex?

The teddy.
I feel no remorse regarding the ex.
