Rid myself of unwanted junk in the form of annoying people and other things (read all 8 entries…)

Here’s what he wrote:

Hi,

I’d figured something along those lines. Working on the basis that either I had over stepped the mark, which I only did because my reading of you is that’s what you wanted. Or I just scare you because you think I want a lot more than you do or I’m too much like the ex’s. Ce la vie.

It’s a bummer, because I reckon your well worth knowing, and I mean that as a friend. So I think it would be nice if we could stay in contact, and by all means let me know if you want to go for a bike ride along (local area) or something else.

In typical fashion, he’s assuming that he knows what I did/do want… and better than I do myself. Both incorrect and annoying… but at least he seems to be accepting my decision. Most importantly, accepting it without my having to explain how irritating I find him.

Hopefully that’s the last of that.

The thing about Canberra...

is that nothing is in the same place… I had to go to Big W to get a couch cover. There’s one in Gungahlin (about 15 minutes roughly east from my place) and one in Woden (about 20 minutes roughly south south east from my place). Then I had to go to Target in Civic (roughly 15 minutes from Gungahlin and my place – the bottom of a triangle) to see whether they had any couch covers that were priced better and also to go to Lincraft in the city, because it’s a bigger store than the Belconnen one (5 minutes from my place). As it turned out, Target has no couch covers at all, and Lincraft was out of stock of the one bloody needle size I wanted. So I had to drive to Belconnen mall to go to the Lincraft there, and I also checked at KMart to see if they had couch covers. There’s no one place in the ACT with KMart, Target and Big W in the same mall… Or if there is it’s Tuggeranong, and that’s way south. They carry pitchforks and have mullets and are generally scary people down there.

Add the driving time, plus the time trying to find a park at all three shopping centres, and the general crowdedness due to good weather. It’s stupid – when the weather is good, people decide to go and hang out inside the mall. Uh what??

It reminds me why I hate Saturday shopping and very rarely do it…

It's the opposite in Melbourne.

Because the weather is so changeable, when it’s nice weather everyone is outside… but when it rains, they head for the shopping centres en masse!

Though now I understand why your shopping trip was so (frustratingly) long. Does Canberra have 7-day trading?

Thankfully, yes

If I absolutely must go to the shops, I try to go on Sunday – otherwise I wait until I can take some time off work and go then, while all the teens are in school and not loitering at the mall. Then it’s only pensioners I have to avoid.

LL has a Matty!

Don't they usually come out on pension day?

Down here that always seemed to be on a Wednesday… they’d get some sort of discount… or something…

Pensioners

hang out at the mall all the time. Maybe it’s because there’s nothing else to do if you’re a pensioner in Canberra…
