When people used to tell me to smile I was usually not upset until I heard that comment. I always thought, “Piss off! Why don’t you tell me something that is going to MAKE me smile. Tell me a joke. Tell me a story. Say hello.” Commenting on how unhappy I look, first thing right off the bat, was not going to make me smile… it’s actually going to have the opposite effect.

Good news, it happens less and less as you get older. I don’t know if I smile more or what. Good luck.
