My approach is for teaching creative writing. I try to do this in literature courses as well, but it is hard to get them to understand that reading is just as important as writing works. In literature courses, I try to give them a voice in the text, to have some part in the joy of texts, the discussion of texts, and ultimately, the meaning of texts. Unfortunately, it all sounds much better than how most students view my class.
Well, I was going to say that I enjoy your art as well. I particularly enjoy the birds and your flowers, and although you don’t have a digital camera, they still look very nice. What medium is that you are using? Do you begin with a sketch? I like your colors. Your works are very mysterious in that I feel like parts of them are vanishing, but there is still something blatantly real and in some cases, horrifying, like the solo bird, and in other cases pleasant, like the lighted side of the flowers. But there is always a shade or a shadow with degrees of darkness and light. You are probably laughing at me because I have no idea what I am talking about when it comes to art. I just know that there seems to be a lot going on in some of your pieces.
Thanks for the cheers on my poems. I really try to write everyday. Unfortunately, I don’t put too much up here. When I haven’t written anything, I will log on and put my thoughts down. I like doing it here because I can share with others, something I don’t often do, and I am best on a keyboard.
And finally, I am on your side with the post-modern thing. I think the idea that everything has been done or said before is crap. I think that it is part of the negativity associated with the Twenty First Century. “The rich complain because they’re too rich. The poor complain because they’re too poor.” Some European poet said that. The smart complain because they’re too smart. I said that. I follow your idea to be true to yourself. I have gotten to the point where what I believe just comes out when I write no matter if I am writing about donuts or the natural slide down the letter y or eternity. The truth doesn’t change, but that doesn’t mean we have shed light on all of it yet. I think I’ve met my word limit for the day.
