Worth doing

Apparently the only way to get major publishers to look at your work.

I have an agent I like, but you just never know how hard they can work for you. She’s new. Sold five other books this year, but not mine. Mine’s been in her hands for about a year now. Boo hoo.

She says it will sell, but maybe the second book I write will sell first. Did I say Boo Hoo already?

no?

BOO HOO. (Still trying to maintain a hopeful front to the friends and family!)

Comments:

Hi Sally,

You’re one step ahead of me! I’ve been trying to get an agent for two different projects: one, a funny romantic comedy novel; the other a funny housecleaning manual.

Agents usually like my work, but aren’t sure if I’m commercially viable or not. :) I did a strange thing to prove them wrong – I decided to try to sell one of my books as an ebook. My goal is to sell 10,000 copies—surely THAT will get their attention.

I’m at 47 copies so far. LOL Oh well, it’s a start! You can check it out at http://www.happyslob.com.

And if you ever want to chat about writing in general, please feel free to email me at christina@happyslob.com

Hugs,
Christina

the good news

Hi, Christina,

Good to hear your thinking. My writing group self-published a small boxed book of flash fiction last year and sold about 60 copies, mostly at a reading we gave at a book store. We were tired of “no” and decided to make our own “yes.”

I’ve since talked to my agent, and I’m going to do another re-write and we’ll give it another go in the new year. She’s excited and I’m pretty grateful to have another chance. I’m also going to work with a book doctor, a former teacher I trust and respect.

A friend of mine has published a couple of non-fiction books by directly contacting publishers. I think that’s more possible with something like yours. Check them out http://www.newharbinger.com/productdetails.cfm?PC=198
