move to a tropical island
Living in Paradise 3 years ago

Right after I graduated high school I signed up for a summer in St. John with my best friend and ended up staying a year. I snorkled and sailed and hiked and drank rum and fell in love. I woke up every morning and looked out from the top of a mountain to a turquoise seascape with endless islands melting into the horizon. I highly recommend that everyone who can escape to an island for awhile, should.

Comments:

i want to do exactly what you have done, only it seems i do not have the balls. My parents have all of these plans for me, but all i want in the end is to love, not only another person but my life as well, surf, and live as simple a life as possible. I dont know how to do it, and my God, you seem to have done it. HOW!!!???

I was kind of ball-less at the time I went, I had a very aggressive pro-active best friend. I usually came up with fantastic ideas and she made me follow through, ha ha! If you want to check out where I went, it was called Maho Bay, it’s in St. John USVI. They have a 4-hour work program there, you work 4 hours a day and get a free ecotent, a discounted meal plan, discounts in the camp store and on activities. They run it through the summer months, it’s their off-season. Google Maho bay, go to their website maho bay camps, inc. and hit work program on the left hand menu. You can fill out an application online until April 15th. All you need is a round trip ticket, and enough cash saved to make it through a month or two. My friend and i got crappy telemarketer jobs for a month and saved every penny, bought tickets and were on our way! Sometimes this stuff is easier with a friend, I’m sure you could find someone to go to paradise with you for a month or two. It was SO MUCH FUN. If you have any more questions or want to check out some more pics of mine (that one i posted was what i woke up to every morning!), I would love to share. Good luck!
