grow my own vegetables (read all 11 entries…)
Quick update . . . 3 years ago

. . . sorry I have been busy, but it is summer! Pulled all the beets and turnips a week ago, and the spinach is out already, the carrots will come out this week. The Eggplants continue to make blossoms, and have baby eggplants growing on them! Yah! And finally, I have got a couple of ripe tomatoes off the Better Boy - I don’t know if it is the variety, but it seems the Better Boys take a whole lot longer to go from green to red than the Early Girls - but finally, tomatoes and cheese under the apple tree for lunch—that is how I measure summer.

. . . The zukes and crooknecks are making, and the okra is struggling along, maybe even a blossom or two. And the brocolli is outrageous! Brocolli is hard here because of the intensity of snails and slugs, they come from miles around when they “smell” it—if smell it they do, so the greenhouse is about the only way to get blemish free brocolli.

. . . I have to get a good heavy watering in (today) and then a re-seeding for second crop. This one will be a bit slower, but will still make over the next 60 days. Then I will be switching to the winter run of cool weather stuff.

Happy Gardening everyone!

sounds so good.

I’m going to have to grow veggies instead of flowers next year.

Not only have you had fish, but beets? Beets are the most wonderful vegetable ever. I ate them for the very first time this year, (don’t know why), and now I so enjoy them, almost all the time!

Yeppers . . .

. . . grow food—and beets are just great! if you ae having a yearning for them, eat them alot. You can cook the greens too, if you like greens.

. . . just got finished with a rewarding lunch - the last of the fresh caught by yours truly fish and just pulled carrots from the garden - then I topped it off by making some “horseradish” from some too old radishes—excellent!

. . . I am into the importance of good nutrition, and of growing as much of your own food as possible. I can’t “to it all”—not so sure I want to, but the vitamin and mineral basics, ie, the fresh veggies, that I can do.

. . . I see health care as the number one issue in America—and most health care “needs” are the result of poor personal habits and choices.

. . . anyway, I like flowers, but the earth seems to have a profusion of flowers for me to enjoy, but good food is a bit harder to find, so i grow the food.

. . . now get well, eat beets!

hee

this morning at 0600, I relieved my neighbours of tomatos, yellow squash and some okra. They said I should, but I didn’t realize actually how much was rotting on the vine, so I may try to visit more often…
Can’tget over the feeling that I am stealing!

try going at 5:30 . . .

. . . with a flashlight, and a bacalava pulled over your head—add to the experience!

. . . most floks grow more than they can eat—and nobody, NOBODY, feels worse about food rotting on the vine than the farmer!

. . . eat to your hearts content (or until they tell you to lay off a bit!)
