When I was a small child our family spoke Danish whenever we visited my father’s parent’s home. My grandmother and her aunt were firm believers that we (the grandchildren) should not forget our heritage. When visiting my mother’s family we spoke a mixture of Scots, Irish Gaelic and English for much the same reason.
Off and on for the past few years I’ve been studying Danish, but it’s sure a lot harder now than when I was a toddler. ;)
