Move cross country
Big old pain...but still worth it.

Moving is a pain, but sometimes you gotta do it. Here are the biggest tips for doing it right:

1) Start early. That goes for packing, making plans for the truck, finding a new place, etc.

2) This one is key. Get rid of absolutely everything you don’t need. You want to spend as little time and money packing as possible. Yes, you’ll want your furniture, but maybe not your entire DVD/CD collection. Books are notorious for taking up valuable space and adding tons of weight. Get rid of the ones you won’t read again or will never read. Donate your clothes to Goodwill (not all of them, just the ones you don’t want or need).

I really can’t stress getting rid of the junk as possible. Also, don’t spend time and money packing canned foods or boxes of cereal or any food at all, unless it’s really, really important. Trust me: they will have grocery stores where you’re going. Travel as light as possible. It’ll save you time, money, and prevent you from experiencing any more stress than necessary.
