Actually I received from a gal in Finland who was registered with PostCrossing. She also put a sticker of a rhinoceros on it…a cute addition! I am finding that the variety of stamps are as interesting as the postcards and the one on the Christmas postcard was very pretty.

That this is from a painting called Madonna by:
Akseli Gallen-Kallela: Tarvaspää
It is one of three 1st class self-adhesive coil stamps. Picture motifs: ”Madonna” (1891), ”Selfportrait”(1916), atelier home from outside.
Photographs: Gallen-Kallela Museum
They’re really nice,if i have them i will treasure them
But i don’t understand the history about it,so i just appreciate them, that’s enough

Sorry, didn’t understand – what don’t you know the history about, stamps, Christmas, Finnish artwork?
It is a nice stamp though, isn’t it? Reminds me of Cassatt’s paintings of mother and child. Universal theme.
I don’t know about the story of the stamps,i am not a Christian,so i don’t know much about the Bible

I am not sure about the stamp, if it represents the Madonna of Bible stories. If it is the stamp shows Mary, the Madonna, who is holding the baby, Jesus. She is Mary who was chosen by God to give birth to Jesus. In the Bible the story is that Jesus was God who came to earth and became human, and even was born to a human. You can see in the postcard the idea that Jesus was born in a barn essentially. That shows how willing God was to be humble and a servant. When Jesus grew up he let himself be killed so that anyone who has sinned or done wrong wouldn’t have to be killed for their sins. I was so glad to hear this story because I realize I am a sinner and am glad that I will not have to suffer for my sins, that Jesus suffered for my sins instead. That’s the main story of Jesus and Christmas in the Bible. I mean there is a lot more, but that is the part that still amazes me!
Here in Pennsylvania it is winter at the time that the birth of Jesus is celebrated, which has been traditionally, for much of the Christian world on December 25th. But that is just the day it is celebrated.
I like paintings of mother and child. I like the artwork of Cassatt for that reason (one attached).
Hope you are well. It is very hot hear today, record high temperatures.
Best wishes,
PattyTrish
I didn’t expect you would explain it to me,now i understand it,and i am admire for Jesus.I have read The Davince Code and know something about religion.O like the feeling to be a devotional person,i agree that all man are sinners and need to thank for God and pray.right?
Well ,here still celebrate Christmas Day,but it’s just a foreigner festival for us ,most people in China are Buddhists.
