vigorously attack superstition wherever I find it (read all 10 entries…)
The meaning is obvious. 3 years ago

My parents are sitting in bed, eating coffee and rusks. When my mother had finished her coffee, there are four sesame seeds stuck to the bottom of her mug, in the shape of the Southern Cross. Jokingly, she wonders aloud what it means. My father, with a straight face, says “It means your coffee is finished.”

That’s down-to-earth sensibleness for you.

What are rusks?

Munchable

A kind of twice-baked biscuit, dunked in coffee before eating. Very traditionally South African.

i love this goal

and i’m totally supporting you on this..

i just can’t STAND superstitions… even horoscopes and silly things like that.

when my friends pick up the paper or a ‘zine to look for their starsign, i roll my eyes and i’m straight-forward about it. i explain to them that these things will not determine anything in your life and you have control of your future. then in defense, they say, “even tho i don’t believe in it, surprisingly, sometimes it’s true!” or “it’s just for fun”.
hah. if only we could answer the same to most questions posed about life.
