I’m currently studying Mandarin and plan to live in China for roughly two years. After that I’m considering spending some time in South Korea and studying Korean. I was originally thinking I’d start learning in China shortly before I’m ready to go to So. Korea. I know a lot of people think it’s a bad idea to study two languages at the same time. However, I’ve read other people have had success with two languages at once, so I figure it can’t hurt to try. If it doesn’t work out, I can just put off Korean until I’m more comfortable with Mandarin. So I think I’ll start this fall studying on my own. I’ll probably start off light to keep my main focus on Mandarin, which I’m taking formal classes in. I have actually already learned some Hangul, because it was pretty easy. I think one of my friends is a native speaker, so maybe she can help me with it.

Thanks for the support guys. I started listening to some audio lessons and reading a few websites with lessons. Taking it slow though, to keep my focus on Mandarin. I’m hoping by next autumn, though, I might be ready to start taking classes in Korean. The (free) resources I’ve collected so far are pretty basic though. I think to get much further I’ll have to invest some money, which I don’t really have right now. But I’ll try to get the most I can from what I’ve got.
