why oh why do we think that writing about something uninteresting is somehow intellectually stimulating or otherwise worth doing? i’ve found picking at my toenails more stimulating than this f#@&ing paper! please god let it end!!!

Amen to that!

Ha! I almost added the same thing – i’m writing about victorian literature, what are you writing about (that could possibly be more boring) – and during the summer at that!?

summer...what's that?

Gotta love academia. First they make you read and write more than seems reasonable or even humanly possible. And then when extenuating circumstances make you unable to turn in a paper, they make you finish it before the beginning of next semester.

My own private purgatory is currently on the conceptual history of the term “embryo”. It started off being interesting. No really—could have led to bioethics, etc. But instead I got so bogged down in the nuanced history that I never figured out what the hell I was supposed to be writing about.

Ugh.

eww

Sounds like a sticky topic. What on earth class do you write something like that for? Are you a theology student, or an ethicist? You must be finishing an incomplete like me. Yay for wading through thousands of pages a week, even in the summer!

I guess I can get back to writing about Thackery …

hmmm

i guess “sticky” is relative.
i’m in the history and philosophy of science (for me, the sciences being early genetics/developmental biology and anthropology). so i’ve had some strange papers—like isaac newton’s involvement with weird early archaeologists who were trying to reconstruct king arthur’s kingdom in england, etc. it’s often interesting, but when we get down to nitty-gritty details, it’s easy to get lost…like i did on this paper…and forget whatever it was that you were originally doing. and then paper writing sucks.

you have only two items on 43Things, verbose verbiage on one of them (this entry) you are compensating for lack of focus and determination.
