Learn to play the piano (read all 11 entries…)

I’ve now had three piano lessons and things are going really well. I love playing and practicing and my teacher has been very helpful in directing me. I keep my practice schedule offline in a notebook for my teacher so it’s not available here on 43things, but I’ve been trying to practice as much as possible. I probably have been averaging 5 hours per week. I wish I had time to do more, but I have at least been able to see steady improvement so that’s gratifying.

If you had three lessons two weeks ago,

I wonder if you’ve had some progress which you haven’t posted yet. When we went to brunch this weekend at the Ryan’s in Statesboro, I thought to myself, “I should come back and look at the pianos at the store on the strip mall across the lot.”

Finishing my resume’ and getting it and the application to the book shop took precedence. I didn’t make it over there today. Maybe tomorrow. There might be a job I should apply for near there. Hmmm.. Maybe at the Botanical Gardens? It’s worth a visit.

So I’ll inquire into jobs there, and visit the piano store. Work at the piano store? Hmmm… Will they require I have a mastery of piano? Why not ask?

I damaged the tail gate helping my neighbour move his piano. I extracted a promise from him to let me play on it. Meanwhile, I want to see about getting our own.

More than enough about us. How are your lessons going?

Lots of progress!

I’ve been doing a lot, just haven’t been posting. I’ve been doing a lot of technical work. Mostly Czerny but my teacher just added some Hanon too. Scales, cadences, and arpeggios too, of course. I finished doing a Burgmuller minature and I’m making good progress on a Clementi sonatina (Opus 36, no. 1 I think). Also trying to do regular sightreading and some sporatic sight singing.

I’m probably going to try to do the ABRSM Level 5 test this spring. It will hard if I decide to do it, but a challenge is always good. I’d have a ton of work to do on scales and I’d have to do a lot on sight reading and aural skills too.

Have you gotten to play at all?
