Learn Spanish (read all 22 entries…)
Bought 5 cd with spanish lesson 3 years ago

I was in Boston in August at the Wikipedia conference and I bought some Spanish lessons on CD. Sadly the box is still not opened. I am determined in my goal of learning Spanish and I am hoarding all kinds of learning stuff and designing learning paths. But something is missing. I am not walking along these paths. Maybe it is because I really do not need to learn Spanish and there is lot of pressure bending my limited time in other directions.

Right now I am very interested in wikis, especially wikibooks and wikipedia. I write in the Icelandic wikipedia. Maybe wikis could be used for language learning.

Comments:

I agree with you, sometimes the hardest part about learning something is getting started. I have often put off starting something because I thought I wasn’t ready.

But the thing is, you’re never going to be ready. So, just break open that box of CDs and start listening. That’s how I started a blog, I just started it one day, when I decided if I kept on “preparing” I would never do it. Now it’s been almost 4 months and I’m having a blast.

It’s neat your working on the Icelandic Wikipedia. I’m really interested in languages. I’ve limited myself to Spanish, German and French at the moment, but I think I’ll go after a few more pretty soon.

I’ve been pondering putting up a wiki site for learning Spanish (I already even have a domain!), but I’m not sure what the best format would be for it. I guess it’s a thing of not knowing exactly where to start or what pages/topics would need to be started.

Cheers,

thank you for your advice. The box with the Spanish lesson CDs is still unopened. I guess I am afraid to open it because then perhaps I will spend couple of hours going through the lessons and I feel so pressed for time right now that I feel I don´t have the time.

But I can advice you to start a wiki on wikispaces.com. If you are a educator or a student you can right now have wikis there with no advertisments.

Hey, i thought the same thing when i had to take spanish classes. but you know sometimes sticking to things that you don’t really think is important or are not so interested in sometimes need to be taken a different look at. What i mean is trying to find a reason to doing something that you hope to enjoy. OR, maybe you don’t or have not enjoyed it, but think of the long terms goals you can set for yourself like, making new friends in different parts of the world, or teaching others the language you have learn, or just many of the blessing you could accomplish by using your free time to work on this. This attitude can be use for varitey of things in life that you may find challeging. You just have to keep working hard at it. And, believe me, you will accomplish if you do it everyday, by practing, asking for help, testing yourself, and giving your full ability to it. You will achieve your dream if you only trust in your heart, and think of the good things that can happen if you work on your goal, which can become a reality dream of fanacy.

Thank you for the comment. I will try to give me some time to learn Spanish – try to do something I really like. And I like latin music a lot. So I guess right now it is through music that I hope to learn.

nooo

“Learning” through music is probably the worst thing you can do. The majority of it is slang, or doesn’t translate into English very well, so you won’t be learning anything really. Just a thought…
