swim with sharks
The stupidest plan ever

I have some what of a shark phobia, a small one as far as phobias go, but still a debilitating fear (I panicked when I went swimming with dolphins, cuz they vaguely resembled sharks… sad I know..) And so I figure that if I go and swim with some I’ll get over it, and not just start hyperventilating under water as people I know tell me I will…
The problem is there are no sharks close to Montreal (apparently there are some in the St Laurent but there really small – under a meter – and no one ever sees them). And so, last week I decided that it would be nice to go to South Africa to see swim with some real sharks… except the plane ticket’s price would be astonomical and I’m a student, (i.e. poor)...
But then I remembered that I’m going to Kenya in may (a trip my fathers work is paying for) and so, since it’s about as close to South Africa as I’m ever going to get, I should just take a few days, fly down to Cape Town, swim with some sharks, and come back to Nairobi. As stupid and unpractical as this plan sounds (In two days, I’d be spending about 1500$) I’m thinking it might work…

It could right??

Cheers mate. Go ahead and do it. And then tell me how it went..

I share your phobia

but in the end I just got in the water with them. I went for reef sharks, white tips and black tips, and some leopard sharks, and they were very beautiful and peaceful and now Im not scared of them at all (i’ve swum with them a few times since, in borneo and on the Great Barrier Reef and Ningaloo reef in Western Australia).

but I still don’t think I could get in the water with a great white, it would just emphasise my phobia. Are you going to do the whole great white in a cage off the coast of sth africa thing or are you going to go reefies first? Would love to hear how it goes.

Shark phobics Unite!

I have a love hate thing with sharks! On one hand, I am very scared (didnt use to be able to swim in a SWIMMING POOL alone!) but on the other hand I think they are amazing and beautiful in a completely natural, primitive way.

I want to swim with sharks to see if I can get rid of my fear…also just to prove tomyself that I can do it!

Good luck and let us know what happens in Sth Africa!

Things are coming along

I figure that if I’m going to go swim with sharks, might as well got all the way and swim with the great whites. I bought my tickets, so I guess there’s no backing out now, but I get really freaked out when I start thinking to much about it… I’ll let you know how it went, and hopefully I’ll have some nice pictures to post on this thing!
