apteryx is back in Bloomington
Because of the cloudiness I was having with the soft contacts, my eye doctor suggested that I try rigid gas-permeable lenses (RGPs). These are the small, hard kind of contact lenses. The vision is indeed better—comparable to glasses, and maybe even slightly better.
Some problems, though!
1. The super-clear vision only happens when I look through the very center of the lens. Usually the lens is not positioned in front of my pupil just right, so I see the edge of the lens. On most of the lens (the part more than, say, 70% out from the center), vision is blurry. The eye doctor got me some larger lenses to fix this problem, which helped, but I still find myself looking through the blurry part of the lens most of the time.
2. It’s really hard to get the lenses out. They showed me the method of “stare-pull-blink” where you’re supposed to blink hard to make the lens pop out. That’s worked for me a few times, but usually I just stand there blinking and nothing happens. I have no idea what I’m doing differently to make the lenses come out vs. when nothing happens. So mostly I’ve been using the little suction cup to get the lenses out. I sure hope I never lose that!
Does anyone have any tips on learning to blink the lenses out?
