Send a message in a bottle and get a reply! (read all 3 entries…)
Tough goal

This goal will probably take a long time to achieve… I’ll have to send out a bunch of bottles. Even then there’s a pretty low chance of someone actually finding and opening it.

I wonder how many bottles are sitting at the bottom of the sea with now-unreadable messages to strangers…

It'll take so long

because it relies on someone else replying to my message too. Some of that relies on them being able to read my message when it arrives, and having the will to actually make a response.

I’ll put in an email address, a phone number, a website, and my home address too, I guess.

Still, it’d help if they could speak English, and felt like replying.

Yeah

It’d be cool to have one found… I don’t particularly want a lasting relationship with the person, but one reply would be cool.

If it was by email then I’d be ok with it… WLM or AIM or something like that.

When you say a fairly quick reply what do you mean? How far was the person from where you threw in the bottle?

Carolin is enchanted

Let’s drain the ocean and find out!

I’ll bet one day there’s gonna be a horrible accident where a ship is gonna sink because a whole bunch of bottles got stuck in the ship’s propellor… and then they’re gonna sue 43things because all the kids on there suddenly wanted to do that. And if you have this goal on your completed list, you’re gonna get arrested too :P

Hey how about we cheat a little on this? We’ll each stand on one side of the English channel, or the strait of gibraltar or something, where you can see the other shore =)

Well I hope I'm not on that ship

I think the standing on the shores thing is a great idea… I know the perfect little river.. ;) More of a puddle if anything.

Carolin is enchanted

that would work too..

cool, I’m so gonna do that now =D
and then tell everyone how I sent a message and got a reply the same day.
And then pretend to not remember the name of this body of water.

Sounds good

I’ll consider the same thing myself. Kinda like the goal I had to sword fight with a baguette in front of the Eiffel Tower. That was fun.

sweet!

Send me a message in a bottle! lol i have know idea how i would get it but that would be freaking sweet!

Haha, I'll try

but no promises ;)

so any time your ready to sent that, just lemme know, because im waiting.

I'll let you know

when you can begin to scour the oceans… It’d really be incredibly amazing if you found it, but in like 10 years or something.

hah!!

oh ill find it all right. haha right

I found a boat with a message written on it

I was a child and it was a handmade wooden boat with a message written on in permenant marker. I found it when swimming in the river. I wrote a letter to the person (they were 12 and lived about 5 miles from me) but never heard anything back.

It was very exciting to find it (I still have it somewhere). But it was a bit disappointing to never get a reply. So if you do get a reply – write back at least once.

How about burying a time capsule somewhere as well?

A time capsule

is a very cool idea. I’d have to bury it somewhere public though. :)

No point burying it in my own back garden.

Stuart Gilbert has gotten 4 cheers on this entry.
