No, I haven't.

This will be my first time. Am hoping that it will help me develop a discipline of writing daily. Have not been doing well on that front at all.

stephrn ready for the next adventure

Have you signed up for Nanowrimo yet?

I just did and added it to my goals here. Now I keep hearing that inner voice of reason saying, “are you crazy?”

brannen is dwelling in possibility, once more.

Did it!

Now just have to do it in Nov!

stephrn ready for the next adventure

that’s the hard part!

brannen is dwelling in possibility, once more.

Good for you and...

thanks for the nudge! I got the NaNoWriMo email and haven’t followed through. I need to.

I understand that inner voice of reason thing, but sometimes you just have to forge ahead – eyes wide open. My work schedule is so crazy right now that I have little extra time and head space, but even if I don’t complete it and manage to get something to work on in future, it will have been worth it. At least that is what I am telling myself.

Now since you’ve asked, I’ve got to let you know when I’ve done it!

Third year in a row

that I have had the intention to NanoWriMo. Last year, I signed up, but didn’t write a word. This year, I intend to do more.

We can do this, I know we can.

brannen is dwelling in possibility, once more.

Yes we can!

Today NaNoWriMo, tomorrow Calabash!

True confessions part 1: I first learned about NaNoWriMo on your 43T page. Thank you…I think. No, seriously, thanks. That is what I love about 43T – I’ve been introduced to so many new sites and ideas from other people’s posts.

LearningNerd just remembered about 43 Things after being gone for over a year!

I'm giving it a try!

This is the first year I’ve signed up for NaNoWriMo, and I’m going to give it everything I’ve got! Or at least I will for the first couple days—after that, I might forget all about it. =P You should definitely try it!

Full steam ahead!

How about a

NaNoWriMo team?

Reactivated my account

and I’ve already started telling my story to my son as a bedtime story (it sucks right now, but I can make it better!) – so I’m ready whenever you are to start this writing team.

brannen is dwelling in possibility, once more.

Sent an invite to your 43T inbox.

Stacy is not giving up

43T inbox?

I know of the mail on 43People, but there’s nothing there. Is there another inbox?

How do you form a group, anyway?

brannen is dwelling in possibility, once more.

Hmm... that's odd.

Just resent it. Hopefully it will work this time.

On the top right hand corner of your main page for each is a link “Invite someone to do this” or something like that. It is the fourth of four links, I think, right below “I give up.”

Ah, just had a light bulb moment! Silly me. I sent you on a goose chase of sorts. The invitation goes to the (non 43T) email address linked with your 43T account. Ay, pobre de mi!

writers can't afford to be too busy

This notion just occurred to me when i read Brennan’s post about having a lot of work.

It hit me like a thunderbolt. And this is why you are struggling to write anything. You already have too much on your plate.

Writing, like all art, requires time. NOt just to do the work but time to cogitate and contemplate. Time to reflect.

And what is nanowrimo? if i google it, i suppose it will show up.

but i am glad at least that all these people are admitting that it isn’t working for them so that i don’t feel the slightest temptation to sign up – not that i probably would.

When work intereferes with life

My turn for a super big sigh! You are so right. You really do need to have some mental space in order to be creative. And as I juggle three deadlines for today, one of which I cannot possibly meet, I can’t help but think there has got to be a better way. The trick is in finding a way to earn a living from doing that creative thing you love, like you are trying to do with your art and travel. Or perhaps just striking a better balance in life.

NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month. (The nation being the US, of course.) The idea is you commit yourself to writing X number of words (there’s prescribed target, but I forget what it is) during the month of November. It’s not about quality, but rather quantity – getting your ideas out of your head and on to paper. In addition to the commitment bit, you have the solidarity thing going on – thousands of people all over the world are doing it to too. I think there’s a message board on the site and they have regional subgroups too. I thought doing it would help me vomit some words on to a page and then, if I were lucky, in the clean up I might find a nugget or two to work on further. But there was that small matter of time and feeling pressured by other things… like looming deadlines!

Probably...

someday you will consider that a sacrifice will have to be made in order for you to be the writer you can be.

On the other hand, writers are a dime a dozen in this world. I should think its time for a cull. So if you are going to make sacrifices in order to be a full-time or a most-of-the-time writer, then you had better come up with an amazing result.

Even Lily Brett teaches for extra dollars and i think she has a husband who earns a reasonable income. She does after all live in Manhatten, where she tells me, you need a lot of money to live.

but anyway, good luck in your quest.
