Since I’ve stopped eating candy and sweets, things taste so much sweeter to me. I’ve been taking sips of soy milk right out of the carton (I live alone so who’s gonna mind?) and it totally satisfies my sweet tooth. I had organic blueberries in my oatmeal the other morning and they tasted so sweet, whereas before I thought fruit wasn’t that sweet. I think my tastebuds are remembering what real food tastes like and I like it!

Amazing isn't it???
I, too, had to ditch the sugar… but it wasn’t volutarily for me. Had a Vega Test at a naturopath and I came out as having a sugar intolerance (and gluten… and yeast… and coffee… and dairy…!) Always one to test a theory (particularly when my sweet tooth is at stake) I had a blood test – specifically a glucose tolerance test… and what do you know?? Instead of releasing the usual 30 – 45 ‘units’ (??? cant remember!) of insulin into my blood after consuming sugar… my ever faithful bod was releasing 517 units.
Uh oh…
So I have been trying to be sugar free for the last few months – but I’ve been falling off the wagon a bit lately. Back on track now though!
My point to this long and rambling post is that yes – you will have better skin and find other ways to deal with stress… but you may also be doing your body more good than you think! I had no idea about my high insulin levels – I didn’t feel any different because my blood sugar levels stayed normal. But excess insulin is a bad, bad thing!! Apparently I have it to blame for my 23 years of painful and irregular periods because of the ovarian cysts it has caused, my weight problems (although I dont think it’s just the insulin!) and it has even been a contributor to anxiety attacks and mood swings… bizarre!
