I don’t have to tell you the diagnosis, only that I don’t recommend it.

Really!
You went to Nursing School-where at? Why didn’t you like it? That’s what I want to do!!!
Ask any nurse
Nursing teachers became teachers mostly because they hated nursing. In case that isn’t true, I have found that EVERYONE I talk to about their schools (mine was in GA) felt disorganized and vindictive, as if they were trying to be weeded out…as if they are trying to instill “If you can get through school, you can get through anything” mentality. I had just been through Air Force Boot camp a few years prior, and although the A.F. isn’t the toughest, I would do that all over again compared to 6 weeks in nursing school. I graduated with honors though I hardly cracked a book because I realized how to play their stoopid mind games.
I guess that’s just a foreshadowing of things to come if you choose to work with a bunch of women in a civilian hospital- a few can spoil the bunch, catty, backstabbing, etc. This is part of the reason there is a nursing shortage.
Most people just want to go to work, do their jobs and go home….stay out of the politics. that’s one reason I travel, makes it easier to not get dragged into the stupid games.
That doesn’t make sense though. There are a lot of nurses who want to be in the job because they have the compassion for people and to help people. Maybe you didn’t have what it takes to bea nurse. I’m not criticizing..but some people are better for some jobs!
That doesn't make any sense!
You’re absolutely right! How can a person learn to share their compassion and peace out their time while they work if learning from burned out nurses who became teachers because they hated working at the bedside?
I said, they want to be teachers because they hated nursing.
People who want into the job because they have compassion for people can definitely look toward nursing for this, but not in a hospital. Hospitals are shorthanded and plan their budgets this way so that nurses don’t have time to spend with their patients, it burns out people who get into the field because they have compassion to share and end up banging their heads on the wall.
...and of course you’re criticizing but as a nurse, I’ve grown skin as thick as an elephant, plus I understand it’s human nature. Besides, if you truly knew me, you wouldn’t even consider thinking it.
You don’t know that my co-workers are always saying “You sure were in that room a long time” because I’ve just talked/cried/prayed a long time to a mom who just lost her baby- something other people would wait for the counsellor to do in the morning, or joked with a first time mom to make her feel more at home in the hospital, or given a person who just delivered her baby a back rub. The more you give, the more you’re criticized because others think you are trying to make them look bad. I’ve actually had people tell me (because I’m a contract travelling nurse) “Don’t get people used to that because we’re not going to do that when you’re gone.” just the other night, I was admonished for not charting up quickly enough because I had spent extra time with an anxiety-ridden new mom whose baby was in the special care nursery. These are the things I caution people interested in my field about. I long and hope for more caring people, but compassion is squashed in my field and you have to be a tough little dandelion or tulip and look to your patients and your soul to remind you why you chose your career, because your supervisors hardly do, and administration NEVER does.

Ok, i’m sorry. I totally understand where you’re coming from. It’s just that i’m only a senior in high school and I dont know exactly what i want to do. I’ve always had a dream of being a nurse because I have a lot of compassion, heart and sensitivity for helping people; I also like the atmosphere of the hospital. I do not kno what it’s like to be a nurse, obviously and I see what you mean now. Basically that is true that the administration doesn’t care; but it also depends what kind of people you work with and what hospital you’re at. I know for a fact that if i get into nursing, i’m going to give all my compassion to people, whether i get yelled at, chewed out at, or pulled into an office. THAT”S WHAT WE”RE THERE FOR; if we don’t comfort the patients, than whats the point of us being there!!!!This world needs to change, and there’s so much bad things that that is how everyone else looks at it. With the Holy Spirit living in me, I know and can see the dangers of this world (in general) because He shows me what to see (esp with my consious.) Thanks for responding to me; this is giving me alot of insight. Keep talking to me, I like it! :)
