I ran in the ‘05 Great North Run, on its 25th anniversary. being only 17, for once i actually really went for one of those things i want to do before i die. what gave me the drive to do it was my friend losing his legs to meningitis, i pushed him the whole way round in a wheel chair. i might not always care about something enough to do it for myself, but sometimes, i care about someone else just enough to get off my bum and do it for them. and the best advice i can give to someone pushing a wheel-chair in a marathon – wear mountain biking gloves! otherwise those plastic handles could have shot right out of my hands and he would have gone speeding down the hill at south shield and ended up in the north sea. i’m not going to lie – it sure is sweaty!
