Buster Benson I need more goals.

spend one day a week on a media diet (read all 3 entries…)
A secular person's Sabbath 3 years ago

This was Maggie’s idea, but she might have taken it from The Artist’s Way. But it’s slightly different here… I’m combining it with some of the silent retreat rules. One day a week (either Friday or Saturday or Sunday, depending on if I work on Friday and other things) will be spent on a media diet, which I’m going to take to mean:

  • No internet
  • No books, magazines, newspapers
  • No music
  • No movies or television

The idea is to instead spend the day without media distrations and as sort of a Sabbath for lost souls. Tomorrow will be the first such day.

Oh, I initially misunderstood the purpose of this goal. For a second I thought you were proposing to do something productive with your life and immerse yourself completely into media for a day. Abstinence is so boring.

I still remember my weekends of watching an entire season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer over the course of a day and a half. Or the time the Sci Fi channel showed a marathon of all 14 episodes of Max Headroom. Good times, although I’m pretty sure I looked and felt miserable the following Mondays.

Buster Benson has gotten 5 cheers on this entry.
