Ride The "Death Train" in Bolivia
The "Death Train" in Bolivia.

On the border of Brazil to Sante Cruz, Bolivia is a train route through the lowlands & Amazon region of Bolivia. The train ride can take anywhere from 12-30 hours, depending on the ability of the train’s engine & the engineer. The name can be misleading. The stories I have read says many people died building the railroad, similar to the constuction of the Panama Canal. Another story says it is so hot in Bolivia’s lowland people ride on top of the train to cool off. They fall asleep & falls of the train, ouch! Some die from the fall or die from the elements, including diseases from mosquitoes. Bolivia & South America has many fantastic train journeys in which I have travelled on some. Plan to travel more on the trains in the future.
