I agree. It is impossible to save the world alone. But it is possible to do a lot personally and to organize many people for the same purpose.

Is anybody happier because you pass his way?
We should never underestimate what we can do.
We are here because in the past one single human being took a personal decision, he or she made a choice that changed the lives of millions.
Hadn’t Rosa Parks made a choice probably getting rid of the segregation in US would’ve taken another generation.
And you can go on and on with examples.
Maybe what you write, say or do to help others, may not change the world, but maybe someone you helped, someone who heard you or saw your actions may feel compelled to do good things, to improve themselves, to fight for what they believe.
The title of this post is a quote by John Hall, sure you can’t get the whole mankind to be happy, not even a Buddha could and he broke in pieces because the despair of being unable to save every sentient being. We are not Buddhas, we are human beings, but we can tweak someone’s path, with the right advice, with a smile, with wathever we may find. Abraham lincoln said once that he wanted to be remembered because he planted a flower where he knew a flower could grow. The field is vast, start sowing now :-)
