Learn to play the piano (read all 11 entries…)
Getting there 3 years ago

I haven’t posted in a while, but I’m continuing with my piano lessons. Things are going well and my teacher is fantastic. I plan to take the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) Level 5 test this spring, with the ultimate goal of Level 6 by the following spring.

Go for it!

Wow…I hadn’t reviewed this goal in a while, because I hadn’t done anything about it. I came looking because I wanted to see what others were doing to make their piano-playing goal come true. While I cannot see myself ever taking piano playing this far (I’m more like the two people above), I really want to commend you for how far you’ve come. It just shows what a really good teacher can do to inspire and motivate us to achieve our goals. One of these days I will do this. For now I’m content to have it on my list and check in to cheer you all on!!!

I’m having a lot of fun with it. I’m managing to do about 5 hours of practice per week, sometimes more. I have a lot of work to do still, especially with my aural training, but I’m happy with my progress so far. Thanks for the comment. It’s appreciated!

Grade 5...

...then mark this one done, and move on to “master the Piano” :-))

I’m working on Grade 5 violin. When I go for my ABRSM exams it seems to be me and waiting room full of kids (who are all better then me!)

How long did it take you to get to this level?

Well, it's a long story

I took lessons for about a year and a half when I was 10 or 11, then for about a year in high school. I messed around a litle on my own in college, but this is the first time I’ve taken lessons since high school. I also have a lot music background though. I play electric bass (which was my main instrument) and was a music major in college, so I took classes in theory, orchestration, etc.

Good luck with your violin! This will be my first ABRSM test but I’m expecting to be pretty much the only adult in a sea of kids too.
