I’m deaf in my left ear, but was never asked about the problem during the initial phases of my hiring. All I was asked about, among many other written questions aimed at evaluating performance, is whether or not I felt confident that I could hear well enough to perform my job adequately. Being that they wanted ME to evaluate this, and being that I believe my right ear’s hearing makes up for the loss in most cases, I responded with a “yes.”

Years ago, I gave up my childhood dream of working for the FBI when I learned that being half deaf would disqualify me from training there, but this may not have to keep you from ALL of the goals you have for uniformed work. Each station may differ, but at least give it a try! (And best of luck!)
