study abroad, in England (read all 12 entries…)
I'm in! 1 year ago

I had my interview with the Office of Internation Education today. They had to make sure that, before they sent me abroad, I wasn’t a delinquent or troublemaker or anything. The whole thing only took about five minutes (because my application was that good) and they told me on the spot that they were going to accept me into the program. So now it is, without a doubt, a for sure going to happen thing. I’m going to England in January!

Excellent

Good for you! Where will you study? What’s the programme and how long is it?

Thanks!

I’m going to the University of Leicester in Leicester for the spring semester, and I’ll be enrolled in the Victorian Studies program.

Best travel advise I ever received

Be a traveler not a tourist.

Tourists visit places and come away with things.

A traveler comes away changed.

As an American living in the UK I’ve seen first hand how we overpower the Brits. A dear friend told me this on my first trip.

For the three days only ask for things you need. Listen to the locals and how they speak (tone and volume)

For the rest of your time always speak at a volume lower than the locals.

Dress warm!!

Thank you

That’s great advice, especially since I’ve never been to Europe. Our tone of voice is not something I’d ever really thought about, but it will be now. And I’m trying to amass a wardrobe of warm clothes. Unfortunately I don’t have too many because it just doesn’t get terribly cold in Texas.

emchik has gotten 1 cheer on this entry.
